This incident has shed light on a loophole in the rules governing politicians' expenses. Guardian Australia revealed that there is no cap on the amount of spousal flights senior ministers can claim, with regulations describing these entitlements as "relevantly unlimited."
Mrs. Farrell returned to Adelaide a few days later, while the minister flew to Shanghai for a trade show the following Sunday.
