Ludwig was a high-priority target for Michigan, ranked as the No. 242 player nationally and the 12th-best tight end in the country per the 247Sports composite. He confirmed to Rivals that he requested and received approval to explore other options, saying, “Michigan did approve my release.” With the release granted, Ludwig is now free to entertain opportunities elsewhere as programs may begin contacting him again.

Standing 6 feet 5 inches and weighing 250 pounds, he earned Montana’s Gatorade Player of the Year honors in 2025 after making an impact on both sides of the ball. Offensively, he posted 50 catches for 736 yards and 10 touchdowns and added five rushing scores. On defense, he tallied 32 tackles, including 13.5 for a loss and four sacks.
From his West High School perspective, Ludwig represented one of the earliest commitments in Michigan’s 2026 class, selecting the Wolverines over 29 reported offers. West coach Rob Stanton described him as a rare talent, praising his combination of speed, strength, and meticulous attention to detail for someone his age.
