Penguins vs Lightning 4-3 | Malkin's Late Goal Seals the Win! | NHL Highlights Dec 4, 2025 (2026)

Penguins Edge Lightning in Thriller, Malkin's Game-Winner Seals the Deal

TAMPA, Fla. -- The Pittsburgh Penguins pulled off a thrilling 4-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday night, thanks to Evgeni Malkin's game-winning goal with 2:43 left on the clock. This win marks the Penguins' fourth in five games, showcasing their resilience and offensive prowess. Tristan Jarry made 36 saves, Ville Koivunen scored his first career goal, and Ben Kindel contributed a power-play goal. Malkin also had an assist, demonstrating his playmaking abilities.

The Lightning, led by Brandon Hagel's two goals in the third period, mounted a comeback. Hagel has been on fire, scoring 10 goals in the past seven games. Nikita Kucherov and Darren Raddysh also contributed, with Kucherov scoring and assisting, and Raddysh recording two assists. Jonas Johansson finished with 26 saves, but couldn't prevent the loss.

This marks the first time since October 18-23 that Tampa Bay has dropped consecutive games in regulation. Malkin's goal, assisted by Tommy Novak, proved to be the game-winner, despite a late challenge by Kucherov, whose goal was overturned due to a missed stoppage for a hand pass.

Pittsburgh's top-ranked power play lived up to its reputation, scoring twice to help the Penguins build a 3-0 lead. Koivunen opened the scoring at 6:12 of the first period, snapping Tampa Bay's streak of consecutive penalty kills at 24. Malkin then stole a pass and converted a breakaway at 7:53 of the second period, followed by Kindel's power-play goal at 9:49, extending the lead to 3-0.

However, the Lightning fought back. Kucherov scored with 1:14 left in the second period, and Hagel cut the deficit to one at 1:17 into the third. Hagel's second goal of the third period with 8:16 to go brought the Lightning within one, but the Penguins held on for the win.

The Penguins' next game is against the Dallas Stars on Sunday night, while the Lightning will host the New York Islanders on Saturday night. The teams will look to continue their momentum and improve their standings in the NHL.
