Sennheiser has revived the MD 9235 wireless mic head after years of demand from touring engineers.
Originally designed for wireless handheld operation, the MD 9235 earned a loyal following for its ability to cut through loud onstage levels and minimize crosstalk, even when performers step in front of the PA system. When Sennheiser discontinued the capsule in 2020 and introduced the MM 435 and MM 445 as successors, those newer heads quickly gained popularity—but the MD 9235 requests continued to pour in.

“After the MM 435 mic head and the MM 445 high-rejection head took over in 2020, they quickly built their own fanbase,” says product manager Sebastian Schmitz. “Yet inquiries about the MD 9235 kept arriving, years after its discontinuation. So we joined forces with our development and manufacturing engineers to explore how we could bring the MD 9235 back. Touring sound engineers who tested early samples were excited to have the MD 9235 return.
The MD 9235’s appeal is easy to understand. It features a lightweight aluminum-copper microphone coil that moves faster than traditional coils, delivering detail and transparency that remain reliable in demanding live environments. Its cardioid pickup pattern accurately and robustly reproduces vocals while suppressing ambient noise from the sides and rear—ideal for performers who move a lot on stage and often end up near the speakers.
On the technical side, the specs reinforce the appeal: frequency response from 40 Hz to 20,000 Hz (±2 dB), a maximum SPL of 163 dB, and a weight of only 119 g. The mic head is broadly compatible with Spectra, Digital 6000, Digital 9000, EW-DX, EW-D, EW-DP, the 2000 series, and Evolution Wireless G4 300 and 500 series systems. Each unit ships with a protective pouch and five replacement foam inlays.
