A teenager was found not guilty of manslaughter after a fatal crash on Adelaide Avenue in April 2024. The incident involved a stolen white Toyota Camry that lost control and rolled over. The prosecution argued that the 16-year-old accused was behind the wheel, citing blood evidence on the driver's side airbag and door. However, the teenager denied driving erratically and claimed that another person was driving. The trial did not hear evidence from any witness who positively recalled seeing the accused teenager driving the Camry. Despite two men pleading guilty to their involvement and naming the boy as the driver, the jury found the teenager not guilty. The accused was also found not guilty of an alternative charge of culpable driving causing death. Acting Justice John Burns released the boy from custody, sentencing him to a three-month good behavior order with a curfew for his admitted charge of riding in a motor vehicle without consent. This case raises questions about the reliability of evidence and the responsibility of those involved in such incidents. What do you think? Do you agree with the verdict?
