Cigna and UNC Health Resolve Healthcare Standoff: Patients Reassured
After weeks of uncertainty, patients with Cigna insurance can now breathe a sigh of relief. UNC Health and Cigna have reached a new agreement, ending their contract stalemate and ensuring uninterrupted access to healthcare services.
The previous contract between the two parties expired on November 30th, leaving patients in a state of uncertainty. However, the new deal, effective from December 1st, covers all Cigna Healthcare commercial plans, providing much-needed clarity and continuity of care.
James Day, General Manager for Cigna Healthcare Carolinas, expressed his satisfaction with the agreement, stating, "Cigna Healthcare is pleased to have reached a deal with UNC Health, allowing us to continue in-network coverage for the customers we jointly serve. Together, we will continue to provide affordable, quality care to North Carolinians."
UNC Health also assured patients that any upfront payments made while they were out of network will be refunded as Cigna processes the claims. This gesture demonstrates a commitment to transparency and patient support.
Dr. Matt Ewend, Chief Clinical Officer at UNC Health, emphasized the benefits of the new agreement, saying, "This new agreement with Cigna Healthcare will benefit our patients across the state as well as our providers. Our patients will not face increased costs and the stress of going out of network or seeking new providers for their care. We look forward to working with Cigna Healthcare in the coming years to improve access, reduce costs, and eliminate obstacles to care."
UNC Health has committed to notifying affected patients about the new agreement as soon as possible, ensuring that their care remains uninterrupted. This proactive approach is a testament to the organization's dedication to patient well-being.
The resolution of this healthcare standoff highlights the importance of collaboration between insurance providers and healthcare institutions. By reaching a mutually beneficial agreement, Cigna and UNC Health have ensured that patients in North Carolina can continue to access the quality care they deserve.
