The VOLBEAT frontman, Michael Poulsen, is reigniting his passion for death metal with his new project, ASINHELL. This band, featuring Poulsen on guitar, Marc Grewe on vocals, and Morten Toft Hansen on drums, is already making waves with its debut album, 'Impii Hora'.
Poulsen, known for his work with VOLBEAT, a Danish rock band, has a history with death metal. He previously fronted DOMINUS, a band that recorded four fast, brutal albums in the mid-1990s. When working on VOLBEAT's 'Servant Of The Mind', Poulsen wrote numerous death metal riffs, which later became the foundation for ASINHELL's music.
ASINHELL's 'Impii Hora' is a tribute to Poulsen's favorite old-school death metal groups. The band's formation was a natural progression, as Poulsen and Grewe had been discussing a potential death metal project for years. Grewe, a former MORGOTH member and current INSIDIOUS DISEASE vocalist, was an obvious choice for vocals.
The band's lineup includes VOLBEAT's touring guitarist, Flemming C. Lund, on lead guitar, and Jacob Hansen, the VOLBEAT producer, on bass. ASINHELL's live debut on May 30, 2024, at Pumphuset in Copenhagen, Denmark, featured this very lineup, paying homage to the 'Impii Hora' album.
Poulsen's return to death metal is a testament to his versatility and passion for the genre. With ASINHELL, he is exploring a different side of his musical identity, offering fans a fresh and exciting experience.
