Southside Elementary students chat with UK author Kevin Crookes about new book
DENHAM SPRINGS, La (BRPROUD) – Livingston Parish School System, students at Southside Elementry School spoke virtually with British author Kevin Crookes today to discuss his books and how he uses poetry to tell his stories.
Crookes also offered the students the opportunity to work with him on a new book in which they would illustrate and draw. He plans to revisit their illustrations and drawings to be added to the appropriate pages of his book of Alphabet Animals, the statement said.
“This exercise gives our students the opportunity to chat with a professional writer and engage in what they are learning through the book itself – a discussion with the author brings the pages to life,” Candace said. Shaidaee, teacher coach at Southside Elementary School, who set up the virtual session. “Anytime we can increase a student’s level of interest, we improve their ability to learn. “
His latest book, “Snoff the Sloth,” which tells the story of a cuddly furry sloth that lives high in the trees of the rainforests of Central America. In the story, the sloth ventures from his homeland on a dangerous journey to find out what makes a strange noise. The book helps young children better understand the facts about sloths in their natural habitat.
