The U of A Program in Creative Writing and Translation at Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences is proud to welcome translator Kate Briggs as Walton Guest Writer in Translation 2021-2022.

Briggs will be giving a virtual reading of her work at noon on Monday, November 29, in conjunction with the program and the Fayetteville Public Library.

Briggs is a writer, educator and translator from French to English. She is currently working on The long form, a book on co-living, the novel and the accommodation, to be published by Fitzcarraldo editions, as well as a translation of the first novel by Hélène Bessette: Lili is crying. Previous translations include two volumes of Roland Barthes lecture notes: How to live together and The preparation of the novel, both published by Columbia University Press.

She is the author of This little art (Fitzcarraldo Editions, 2017), a long essay on the practice of translation, and winner of a 2021 Windham-Campbell Prize for non-fiction. She lives and works in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, where she leads a collective reading, writing and publishing initiative called Short Pieces That Move!

Each year, the Walton Visiting Writers Series of the Creative Writing and Translation Program brings esteemed authors of poetry, fiction and literary translation to the U of A to give free public readings and work with graduate students of the program. master’s degree in creative writing.
